BITSAT 2010 - Admission Test For BITS Pilani- Copy of the advertisement
I am an average student.
Which book is the best for preparing the same?
And how many hours should i start studying for it?
-Vikram
@anonymous 2: Try for bitsat sample papers in bitsexam site here Click here
PLZ suggest me how to manage
@Worried about Future:
It simply shows that you don't want to spend time with chemistry books...The only way to beat this is to keep a schedule where you are going to spend 1 hour on chemistry everyday to study a new topic apart from your daily preparation
Considering the economic recession the placements have taken a major setback in BITS....many options are being considered by Bitsians(not only bitsians all engineering students)
The previous year avg was 4lpa...which was pretty less compared to many IIT's and NIT's(only some)...the placement scenario current year is very bad...Nothing can be speculated about current years average as many are yet to be placed...
But decent number of Bitsians have made it top colleges in US and cleared CAT
I am not expecting the cutoff to increase this time for Pilani campus...but Goa and Hyd campus it might increase
The 10 hour strategy is just for people who don't have confidence that they can complete the syllabus for Bitsat(or any other engineering exam)
What is also important is what you do with the other 19 hours...Friends...Internet...Television...
Cricket...Football...News...Politics....Career...The choice is obvious
@Anonymous 2: That is what I am telling...the amount of time you spend should be such that you complete your syllabus.....The point that you can complete your syllabus itself means you are not a weak student....It is just your attitude that makes you feel you are weak
Anyways if you are able to complete your syllabus you can spend your time practicing as many papers as possible
hi yaar i think i'll make it to iit but with a rank of 3500-4000...so i wanna make sure that i get into bits . i'm aiming for 340+ marks can you plz gve me tips for how to manage this score and also plz tell me sites which conduct mock test for bitsat.
i'll thankfull if you could mail me your reply at advomg@yahoo.com
Anyways 340+ you need to concentrate more on Chemistry and revise all the basic problems in Maths....I hope you are good with Physics(judging by your JEE rank)
Visit Bitsat Sample Papers for Bitsat Papers
Will make a new post with complete collection of BITSAT sample papers in a short while
also what do u exactly mean by completn syllabus? how can one b sure that one's level of prep of a particular sub is fine and upto the mark?
Many students leave some easy topics in which they can score marks without much efforts....to all those guys complete the syllabus
@Anomymous 2: Ideal time would be a week before BITSAT...practicing many papers during that 1 week :)
Anyways here is the direct link - Click here
I am studying in 2nd year karnataka state syllabus. I want to try for bits pilani test. How do u suggest me plan my studies. I am an average student. My syllabus is state syllabus. Will I be able to prepare.
SB
Btw, I really liked your blog, found it usefull and informative :)
Now I have a slight problem..
Rather conflicting situation but anyway, I'm really keen on going abroad but in case that for some reason doesn't work out, BITS would be at the top of my list..
I have just finished my CBSE-2009 board exams and will be appearing for the BITSAT this may..
And I am not in the least bit confident about it..not even a month left and I've started preparing..
So the most likely case is that I'll be dropping a year, not just because I might not pull it off this time but also because I would like to give admission into a foreign university a chance first( this was a recent decision so I will be sending in applications for the year 2010 anyway)
So what my question is, is there any particular cut off that I would have to cross in the BITSAT this year to be eligible to write it next year..??
For example in the hypothetical situation that I do pathetically( like a 100 or worse ), will they allow me attempt it next year..?
Is there any preferance for candidates applying in the same year as their board exam as against droppers..??
Anyway, thanks :)
Considering I get above 80% in my board exams that is..( which I'm pretty sure I will :) )
And yeah, 1 more thing, in the case I stay back next year, I will be going for iitjee coaching..
Is it better doing that or is it better to solely concentrate on BITS stuff cuz the IITJEE syllabus has a whole lotta extra stuff..
But there again, most people who do the iitjee also do the bitsat, so they would obviously be more prepared..or would they..?? :P
And I guess AIEEE coaching wouldn't be enough( teamed with going through BITS papers)..would it..?? I mean for a pretty high score cuz I'd like to do comp or electronics..
1)If you cross 80% in 2009 board exams you can write both BITSAT 2009 and BITSAT 2010 irrespective fo your score in BITSAT 2009
2)There is no preference for direct applying students compared to the droppers
3)With a month of preparation and hoping that you have performed well in your 11 and 12 you can easily get a score of 270+ if you spend your time judiciously
4)A JEE coaching or AIEEE or BITSAT coaching doesnt make any difference...only your determination to study will....If you think JEE coaching is too hectic go for AIEEE or BITSAT coaching :)
5)Most importantly - wasting a year in your life is something which you should avoid....You would find your friends enjoying and you trying to study which is very tough...Most droppers dont get a better rank only becoz they loose interest at the end and stop studying...So try to utilize this one month judiciously and crack BITSAT :)
Thanks a ton, that really helped :):)
The only way you can repay me is by spreading the word about BITSexam(just kidding).....tell to your friends....mail all your contacts :)
me nugorama.
@sunaina : :)...All the best
sir wat do you feel is da score which could assure a top 20 finish in BITSAT 2009...judgin from the past scores as nothing can be said about the bitsat this year..
really liked ur blog ... plz guide me.. do u suggest any test series to join for bitsat like those of narayna, resonance etc..i've my bitsat on 19th may and for my performance i'm expecting that i'll score a rank of 3200-3600 in jee(as per vidyamandir's,my institute, predicton judging by marks) i've told u this so as to make it easy for you suggest me some tip for crackin bitsat.. . i mean are they worth of joinin?..
well err.. m dat guy who posted diz ques " score required for a top 20 finish in bitsat 09" as anonymous....thanxx....gott da way ahead...n yea...
great work u are puttin in here....m quite new to this website n found t really helpful....thanxx
@monk : Obviously...In my 4 year....last few days....was busy with my farewell yesterday :)
@mani : Concentrate on the topics you have not completed till now...it should really help especially chemistry
@varun : :) Tell your friends
@TG: Hmmm MTG/Arrihant are very good....You might not be lucky to get a decent paper in BITSAT...it happens...anyways joining any course for BITSAT is simply your choice....I have no idea about time coaching but it should be good
@X4 : Say out of 45 questions 20 are a bit lenghty....25 are short and tricky :)
No check the BITSAT syllabus for more information...do a search in this blog for more info :)
is the bitsat paper different for droppers i mean is a tougher paper given to droppers
Also most papers are of similar level
hey i got my bitsat on 14th of may so considering not much time left can u tell me abt the basic strategy like my strongest is physics then chm i suck at maths , i saw the last years papres frm arihant was able to solve physics & chm & most of the time cented the logic& english part but math i sucked . i am planng to give mock test everyday & wht else shld i do pls help!!!!!!
Try to give one Maths paper everyday and check out what your mistakes are....not down the mistakes and revise topics in which you are consistently making mistakes....
Also try to by heart the basic formula/problems in Mathematics...Everyday one topic 2 hours only by hearting stuff.....you will surely pass with flying colours :)
Do atleast three online mock for English..
@yash: :)
I didnt do tat well at AIEEE and expecting a score of arnd 165-180 .My BITS test is on 12 May.I wanted to know how i shuld go abot my studies as BITS is the last option I have left and am desperat to get into BITS ......I have'nt bought any books specially for BITS so plz recommend me some good books .
And ,sry this is off topic - what do you think of Manipal as a university .I have cleared their test and confused whether to drop a year and study for AIEEE/IIT/BITS again. So what do you say sir, shuld i just go for Manipal (ECE) or try again another year.
PS: I am pretty confident i can clear AIEEE atleast well next year.
Plz help ,e out.
@samarth : Your AIEEE/JEE performance doesn't matter....only your BITSAT does....practice atleast one online paper every day...dont waste your time on a single question rather try to by heart the standard model's
Don't start any topic from scratch but only revise them...but Chemistry is an exception...you must study new chemistry topics for 1 hour everyday....
Spend extra time on studies these days and try to rectify your mistakes
These 2 weeks of hard work will determine your future for the next 10 years....If you care about your life you will come out with flying colors...
As for Manipal you talk to me after your BITSAT...for now no comments
when i reexamine the paper at home i find it very easy and found that i can easily score double of it.....
really i want to crack bitsat....cud u tell me around how much topper used to get marks in bitsat....by this i want 2 predict the difficulty of paper.....
You just need to work on your mistakes...also learn the new topics for BITSAT especially Chemistry :)
The topper gets above 450 (he will obviously attempt extra 12) but they generally get into the top IIT's
Among the people who join BITS the topper's score is around 400
320+ to get a good branch
I have put a huge list of sample papers available on the internet - Huge List of free Bitsat Sample Papers - Click here
i heard that ques in bitsat chem will be mostly lifted directly from ncert text books(90percent atleast)...is that true? i havent gone through previous years bitsat papers....but i bought this cd from bitsatrace..and i gave 2 exams from it and ended up getting dismal scores like 235 240...considering that i scored close to 260 in aieee 2009..these marks make me doubt my confidence...are those papers tough? what do i do?? please help..urgent
-teja
The problem is with our state board chemistry syllabus(I am from Andhra Pradesh)...So spend more time preparing topics from NCERT books....
If you cannot get NCERT books try to prepare from Arrihant / O.P.Tandon or Narayana /Chaitanya AIEEE material...Dont forget to study the extra topics in Chemistry - How to Crack BITSAT Chemistry - Click hereBITSAT race papers are tough...but it is good you write such tests....if you can concentrate on your weakness and improve on it you surely can score above 330
Also try other online resources - here is the link Huge list of Free BITSAT Sample Papers - Click Here
can u plz sggest sme books for maths. i consider myslf good at maths (thru jee, rank exp 3600-4000). is arihant for bitsat good enough?
my bitsat date is 15 may iam pretty good in chem and have covered almost the entire syllabus except 2 or 3 topics and my calculus is also good but my coordinate geometry and algebra are little weak
so is it ok if i am doing coordinate from tmh maths
also wht shud i do for algebra
my physics of 12 is good but mechanics is weak
i want to knw if phy paper of bitsat is tougher than aieee 09 phy paper or the same level also is the bits paper lengthy like aieee
sorry i hav alot of ques. but i desperately want to score above 300 so please help
@sid: TMH is good for coordinate geometry....Check my post on How to crack Mathematics - Click here especially for info about how to crack coordinate geomtery
Physics paper will be more tricky than lengthy...You have more chances of making a conceptual mistake in Physics rather than a calculation mistake
You can score above 300...Patience and determination will make you reach your goal
@rishi : Haha...You talk as if I always speak lies...Why question my honesty???This is bad on your part guys
Anyways I scored 309 in BITSAT...I dont remember my individual subject wise marks...It has been 4 years
I joined BITS Pilani - Pilani Campus with a Civil Engineering degree....After my first sem I got transferred to M.Sc.(hons) Biological Science
After my first year I got a dual in computer science and a transfer from M.Sc(hons) Bio to M.Sc.(hons) Mathematics
So finally I am doin M.Sc. Mathematics with B.E.(hons) Computer Science dual
And after my first year i have not opened my books never studied...attended very few classes and enjoying my life :D
He did internship @ Yahoo Bangalore and is into Entrepreneurship nowadays
In short we are no fools..And there is no need for us to lie to you..
I am sorry if I was rude but it hurts when someone questions my credibility
THANK YOU VRY VRY MUCH
And all the best for your BITSAT...
and please tel me the level of maths questions in bitsat...cause i am confident in physics, chemistry and ELR ...and maths will be my deciding factor....
But you can get an engineering dual so dont worry
320+ for Goa and 330+ for Pilani :)
i m getting 220+ in aieee, and around 150+ in jee( got blank in paper)
how much do u think i will get in bits?
common man u can guess....
I am not your dude...I am elder to you...first learn to give some respect..I hope they taught you such things at your home/school
Do I look like a score predictor where you pass your other exam marks as input and I deliver your so called expected BITSAT marks as output?
BITSAT is a different test...a different day...If you can get your basics right...you will succeed....There are so many guys who got ranks below 500 in AIEEE qualified JEE but screwed up BITSAT for many reasons...
So stop wasting your time and my time and spend it on your books...
I am just here to help you guys with your BITSAT related doubts....not for answering silly useless questions
IIT: 56 and EEE: 108... So no chance in them... Sir, please suggest how can I manage to crack BITSAT wid a gud rank!
Are NCERT and K.C. Sinha sufficient for Maths?
My weaknesses:
MATHS: conics,3D,
PHYSICS: rotational dynamics, fluids, SHM
CHEMISTRY: physical esp. thermodynamics n equilibrium.. plz suggest whether NCERT is enough for these!
It is good that you have identified your areas of weakness...after revising them try to take tests only in those topics...it will help a lot
I think NCERT is more than enough for the theory but for the problems and stuff read below
Mathematics go for standard books like TMH/Das Gupta if you can afford it...else revise those topics from the books you follow
Rotational Dynamics is very tricky - I was always confused in that topic...later I realised with some practice and by hearting of basic model problems I could attempt easy to moderate questions...so do that...
Thermodynamics is more of formulae and stuff ...it is not that tough...and SHM is good in HC VERMA/Arrihant
Chemistry NCERT anyday
@Nikhil: An engineering anyday....No point directly jumping into MBA....do an engineering explore various opportunities and then go for MBA or MS
From 20th May – 30th June 2009
Admit List and Wait List announcement : 1st July 2009
So by July 1 I can guess if you will get into BITS
And last BITS test is on 12 June
And for other colleges I am no one to comment until I know your BITSAT score
And please search before posting a comment Coz I wrote a nice article on dual degrees - BITS dual degree - How are they different - Click Here
BITSAT 2009 syllabus - Click Here
@ANonymous : Should be easier than AIEEE 2009...And HC VERMA is more than enough...but practice problems also
For chemistry NCERT for theory...Arrihant/O.P.Tandon/Some other good book available in market for practicals
m currently at jaypee noida doing ECE(thru aieee 2008), i am appearing for bitsat on 6th june, and college exams are getting over on 20th may. I haven't been able to study properlyfot bits till now and not until 20thmay. I ave a mock test(MTG) but could only manage 285. Do you think i can prepare well in only about 15 days? and also is it worth leaving jaypee noida ECE for Bits pilani..i mean in today's scenario? i personally feel it is.. would like ur comments on it.
But 15 days is a short time to prepare for BITSAT..give it your best shot...i can only say that...
And for that extra 12 questions ( not extra 10) search for the post Extra 12 questions ...you will find your answer
And is it necessay that i should complete the syllabus.i thot i would leave out practical organic chem, gaseous state, atomi structure.
i'm cbse,so quite familiar with ncert chem and brilliant tutorial notes.but u recommened books like tandon,is it necessary & is there time.my exam is on 27th
I have always told you to use the regularly used books apart from the NCERT text book....your brilliant material is more than enough for BITSAT preparation but see to it that you study only according to the BITSAT syllabus and complete your syllabus
Concentrating on completing and revising your syllabus for now...from 18 May start practising online test one per day...and try to find to correct your mistakes
Dont write more than one test everyday...it is useless....instead try to study the extra topics everyday for atleast 1-2 hours
And how is hyderabad in comparison to the goa campus???
Hyd is a good college...will develop into one of the best in Andhra Pradesh but it will take some time...Goa on other hand has already shown its mark...it is a very good cllege
in chem,am i expected to know stuff like
(why transition metals form large no of complex compds,exact ans is,vacant d-orbital,high ionic charges,smaller size of metal ions}
these r things which we studied for boards
my friend got 234,he says in chem,qs were theoretical, not involvin problems
like you 4 years ago...sheer determination helped me to cross 300 in BITSAT
All the best
dimpy singh
i'm unable 2 find bitsat samplepapers i need dem urgently. plzzzzzzzzzzzz can u spare sum time 4 men' guide me regarding dis issue
waiting 4 ur reply
an aspirant
All the best for your exams
First of all - I feel I should have taken BITSAT more seriously earlier and started working for it because this site makes it appear darn easy to crack **and I hope it is**..
Well, my problem is that I have my BITSAT on 8th of June 2009. Apart from revising formulae and other things, what must be done? As in... I was going through this BITSAT explorer book by MTG, it has got a lot to be done. But if anyway I manage to finish it, as in, finish is well, does that assure that I will score properly? **considering I am completely banking on this exam**
Also, is it possible for me to start working now and still be able to crack it? I am still confused.
I read Sunaina's comment and I have the same dicey situation about planning to go abroad and such like stuff. So I need help. thanks a lot
:)
You have ten more days and if you have studied properly previously you will surely get a good score in BITSAT if you spend these 10 days effectively
how shold be my prepn plan if i want to score 420+ in bitsat
i have my bitsat on june 5th.
please reply
@June 5 : Complete your syllabus...by heart all the basic formula and model problems...practice many online tests
Anyways once you get some degree in any iteration you must pay the fees...else you will not be considered for further iteration
You need to complete your syllabus..There are no specific important topics as your paper comes from a random set of question bank. You can check the posts on How to crack Physics, Maths and Chemistry for additional topics which need some extra reading for BITSAT
