    for freshers i mean
  • ARVIND THATIKONDA · 8 months ago
@Anonymous 1: Arrihant Mock tests are a bit tough....if you spend your time concentrating in the topics which you are weak and the concepts in which you are confused you can easily score above 320

    @Anonymous 2 and 3: August 1...Same for all students

  • Anonymous · 8 months ago
the tests u put were arihants arent they? well...i bought that cd.so i can get 300+ thank u really..

is laptop compulsory in bits.what is the fees structure too including mess and hostels.is it completely residential. or day scholars are permitted too.
  • ARVIND THATIKONDA · 8 months ago
Please post it in the appropriate sections

Laptop is not compulsory in Bits...but having a computer is desirable
Fee structure can be seen here Click here

Bits is completely residential....Day scholars are allowed only in Pilani campus(that to if your permanent residence is in Pilani)

  • ARVIND THATIKONDA · 8 months ago
@Anonymous above laptop question- I havent put tests from any other website or coaching centre....Infact most of those questions were collected from individual students notes during their 11 and 12 class
  • Dylan Colaco · 8 months ago
Would appreciate somthing like this for math. In JEE my math score is coming to only 29, while chem is 77 and phys 76... And math is most imp for bitsat rit? most weightage...
  • ARVIND THATIKONDA · 8 months ago
Practice Practice and Practice....the JEE Maths had all the standard basic mathematics questions :)

Students who practice will get good marks

CAN YOU GIVE INFORMATION REGARDING BITS CUT OFFS 2008
  • ARVIND THATIKONDA · 8 months ago
I have put a new post about Bitsat 2008 cutoffs- Click here
  • Dylan Colaco · 8 months ago
Ya, but jee phys and chem could be solved to a good extent with only thorough knowldge of ncert and some logic... but not math, most of the stuff is above ncert. But is ncert+MTG bitsat explorer enuff prep 4 bitsat(math)? I have just over a month left!!!
  • Dylan Colaco · 8 months ago
Cuz over 50% aieee math is ncert level sort of...(at least 07& 08 ppr) :)
  • ARVIND THATIKONDA · 8 months ago
NCERT syllabus is more than enough for AIEEE and BITSAT - but the big question is the number of models and problems you practise....As I always see be thorough with your basic....By heart all basic formulae.....it will really help in the exam :) especially coordinate geometry

You must have solve every model before entering the exam(ideally :) )
  • Dylan Colaco · 8 months ago
so no need of tangents and chords and all for circles/conics? All dat is not in ncert...(tangents and normals r ok if they involve differentiation, but the other stuff like radical axis and all)
  • ARVIND THATIKONDA · 8 months ago
First check if the topic is there in the BITSAT syllabus....If it is there then prepare from NCERT book

Click here for the BITSAT 2009 syllabus

can you give me the information of bits cutoff 2009
  • ARVIND THATIKONDA · 8 months ago
Funny BITSAT2009 not yet started...visit this blog after june 12 :)
  • Anonymous · 8 months ago
you said that NCERT syllabus is enuff. but from where should one lookout for probs esp in phy also what kind of brushup is needed for eng and logical reasoning.
  • ARVIND THATIKONDA · 8 months ago
There are two phases of preparation - Theory and Practice - For theory prefer NCERT books...for practicing problems follow some books like TMH or Arrihant...For Physics one can also opt for HC VERMA both theory and problems....but at the same time see to it that those topics are present in both BITSAT and NCERT syllabus :)

English and Logical reasoning nothing more than what you have learned till your 12 and basic brush up of grammar
  • anand · 8 months ago
sir please tell me which book is sutaible for maths, physics& chemistry for bitsat preparation
  • ARVIND THATIKONDA · 8 months ago
    @anand: Physics - HC Verma/Arrihant
    Maths - TMH/
    Chemistry - NCERT books/Arrihant/OP TANDON

For practice go for arrihant books/MTG Bitsat explorer
  • ARVIND THATIKONDA · 8 months ago
BTW I forgot the second book can anybody tell me the name :) It is a famous publication in a black cover

  • Anonymous · 8 months ago
can i know the best site for mock test in aieee
  • ARVIND THATIKONDA · 8 months ago
@Anonymous 1: No need to buy the BITSAT book...for practice go for MTG cd or other online resources

@Anonymous 2: Try Goiit or do a google search :)Even BITSAT papers are similar to AIEEE...you can get them here Click here
  • Anonymous · 8 months ago
hi sir,plz tell me whether the groups are that important in chemistry?how to prepare and from which book to prepare??
  • Anonymous · 8 months ago
THEN 2 GAIN BITS,PREPARING MATHS, CHEMISTRY,ENGLISH PERFECTLY,THAN TO START PHYSICS IN THE LAST MINUTE,BECAUSE I`VE NOT YET PREPARED WELL FOR PHYSICS..PLZ GIVE ME REPLY FAT,MY BITS DATE IS 18TH MAY,SO IF COMPULSION TO PREPARE PHYSICS ALSO PLEASE TELL ME THE WEIGHTED TOPICS TO PREPARE...
  • ARVIND THATIKONDA · 8 months ago
@Anonymous : Groups are as important as any other topic....anyways scoring in groups is very easy .....Stick to NCERT text book :)...If you want something more prepare inorganic chemistry from OP Tandon...the best book for chemistry... arrihant is also good....

@Anonymous 2: All subjects are equal...spend 2 hr on Physics everyday.....dont study any new topics(only because ur exam is on may 18)...just revise all topics you are good with....once you are done with your syllabus go for other topics :)
  • Anonymous · 8 months ago
I am not so keen abt the fee particulars but the link u gave above does not suggest anything abt the fee plz put an approx figyre in ur reply
  • ARVIND THATIKONDA · 8 months ago
According to last year it is Rs.30,000 per semester....Will cost around 1 lac per year considering the hostel and other fees

Don't worry about the fees dude....loads of banks to give loans without any other prerequisite :)
  • SriRam · 8 months ago
thank you for that....please,help me maths too,if the topics like 3D,statistics,sets,statements,relations that important?necessary to prepare??in chem the mode of preparation for organic??from which book can i refer??ncert book or any others like rapid chemistry??for easy flowcharts??
  • SriRam · 8 months ago
hello, plz tell me where to practice bits for bits, like sdktechnologies or any mtg explorers??
  • ARVIND THATIKONDA · 8 months ago
Rapid Chemistry????No idea...best thing is to prepare from NCERT books or books like O.P.Tandon or Arrihant

    Try MTG...SDK is also good
  • SriRam · 8 months ago
hi sir, rapid chemistry is a product of mtg, which i think is squeezed form of ncert....so i got it,there are some short flowcharts...regarding organic reactions..so i asked you,plz can u tell me the book which i can prefer in the last minute preperation for maths??
  • SriRam · 8 months ago
what are the weighted topics for maths??like differential and others...in chem then to read physical part what are the steps to follow, like lokking all formulae or concentrating more on theory??and also in english time it takes to complete, within 1/2 month??plz reply me it`s urgent
  • SriRam · 8 months ago
sir for chemistry to prepare perfectly!!approximately it takes for about what time??20 days??
  • ARVIND THATIKONDA · 8 months ago
@Sriram : If you have time study NCERT...but I am not sure if rapid chemistry will help

There is nothing like last moment preparation for any subject...try revising from whatever books you have followed till now....revising formulae and practising basic problems in Maths

Ya for english revise basic grammar

20 days...depends on how much effort you have put in the last 2 years....If you havent studied anything it is impossible to complete chemistry syllabus in 20 days
  • Jithin Sarma · 8 months ago
    1.
Is there any need to prepare for THEORY and PROBLEMS for BITSAT as I'm already going for IIT-JEE coaching.../ should I concentrate more on time management ?

    2.
Which book is the best for BITSAT ENGLISH section and also for LOGICAL REASONING ?
  • ARVIND THATIKONDA · 8 months ago
@Jithin : There are some topics in CHemistry and Maths which are not taught in JEE syllabus...try to complete those topics....Simultaneously revise all the basic formulae and model problems....
If you feel you are confident to take the exam then solve atleast on model paper every day

There is no specific book for english and logical reasoning except for some online resources.....

@Ram : I have told people many times not to post it in the wrong section....It is very irritating to answer questions under wrong topic....When I take so much pain to answer your queries why dont you put some effort and put your question under the correct section...From next time onwards I wont be answering the questions under the wrong topic

You can still download the hall ticket...Still having problems call the BITS admission offic

  • ARVIND THATIKONDA · 7 months ago
@Jithin : To gain the edge you must memorize...You can get the list of courses from the BITS Admission website

@Purvi Jain: Go for the mock papers....practice one paper every day and see the topics in which you are making mistakes.....just revise that topic and again practice papers :)...dont waste time trying to crack a tough problem...instead try to practice as many model problems as possible

    Dear Sir ,
Please help me out , Im expecting 225 in jee , but was unable to do my aieee properly , im very scared now ,because aieee is an exam people generally bank on, now i have only bitsat left(on which im banking now), i havent taken any correspondence for bitsat, and i cant depend on my state competitive exam (karnataka) as they consider the board exam marks :( ,
will i get a descent discipline in iit and is it worth it? and how are the level of Q's in bitsat(compared to jee and aieee) ?
    please help me out.
  • ARVIND THATIKONDA · 7 months ago
@Anonymous : 225 is decent score to qualify but I am not sure of you getting a good branch in the top IIT's

Anyways when is your BITSAT - if it is in the later half try to complete the extra syllabus practice papers and concentrate on your mistakes

If it is very close (i.e. before May 15) do a revision of chemistry and study new topics only in Chemistry....practice many papers...one per day

    Sir,
In BITSAT2008, my score was 217. This year also, I'll appear in June for BITSAT2009.
This yr., I'm expecting 242/432 in AIEEE. Last yr. , it was 113/315.
Recently I read in newspaper that BITS prefer frehsers. Is it true. Pl. let me know yr. valuable comments. I'm eager to join BITS this yr., if got selected.
    Thanks.
  • ARVIND THATIKONDA · 7 months ago
@Yuvraj : Dude in which paper did u study that crap...it is just a baseless argument....BITS does not differentiate between a fresher and a repeater.....

You have improved a lot...you will surely perform well in BITSAT....just practice enough papers and complete your syllabus....all the best
  • Shreya · 7 months ago
    Sir,
my bits date and time is clashing with my State engineering entrance exam.I desperately want to change it but I do not know the procedure.
my performance in iit and aieee have been bad, scoring arond 180 and 217 respectively.I am more confident about bits than my state engineering exam EAMCET. However my dad wants me to write EAMCET since there are more number of seats and also because my performance in aieee has been bad he thinks it will be as bad in bits. What do I do??
  • ARVIND THATIKONDA · 7 months ago

I am practicing MTG sample tests. Maths and Phy are easy but chemistry is tough! I could not answer abt 30% q! I am in no way weak in chemistry (scored 95/chem in IIT and 116/144 in Aieee) In fact I have always considered it my strength!

    What should I do? :(

    - UG
  • ARVIND THATIKONDA · 7 months ago
@Anonymous or UG : The reason is pretty simple...JEE and AIEEE chemistry is more of problems and applications while BITSAT chemitsry is more memory based...

What you need is a quick revision of all the topics....Since you are good with problem solving part( as evident from your scores in JEE and AIEEE) you need to revise the theory part...
  • Anonymous · 7 months ago
sir, are questions asked from theoretical principles of experimental chemistry as given in bitsat syllabus, since in aieee, only in physics section questions based on experiments were asked. if yes, then how many approximately-kaustuv
  • ARVIND THATIKONDA · 7 months ago
@Anonymous : Experimental Chemistry is very important to get a good score....The questions are straight forward and don't take much time to answer....so spend a short time revising those topics

  • ARVIND THATIKONDA · 7 months ago
@rp : Mock tests are the second level of preparation....You will need to have your concept clear(theory part) to crack any exams....if u can solve 10-15 papers confidently then you will surely get a good score in BITSAT (if u dont screw it up)

    SIR,
    I AM BASICALLY FROM CBSE.
I HAVE NEAR ABOUT 30 DAYS FOR MY BITS EXAM.

WHAT ALL BOOKS SHOULD I READ, SO AS TO GET A VERY GOOD RANK (NOT JUST CLEAR CUT OFF).

FOR CHEMISTRY SHOULD I JUST READ NCERT OR GO FOR OPTANDON.
EVEN I HAVE SRI CHAITANYA AIEEE MATERIAL (ALL SUBJECTS).

SHOULD I EVEN BUY MTG BITS EXPLORER OR SHOULD I PRACTICE MTG MONTHLY MAGAZINES WHICH I ALREADY HAVE OR JUST KEEP PRACTICING ANY ONLINE PAPERS.

ALSO ADVICE FOR OTHER SUBJECTS (BOOKS & WAY OF PREPARATION).

YOU RECOMMENDED TO REFER CAT MATERIAL FOR ENGLISH, BUT IS IT NOT MUCH ABOVE BITS LEVEL.
    PLZ DO GUIDE ME…..
  • ARVIND THATIKONDA · 7 months ago
    @Anonymous 1 : Thanks

    @Anonymous 2 : Wait bro....don't rush...
Since you are from CBSE you must have already studied from NCERT books....so practice from O.P.Tandon/Arrihant/Any other good chemistry book/Narayana/Chaitanya material

There are some topics in BITSAT Chemistry which are not present in NCERT...prepare these topics from the above books/material

But whatever you do you must complete the syllabus and practice enough problems

10 days before the exam start practicing online papers...till then don't think about solving online papers

Refer CAT material for some basic practice...Anyways we have lots of other online resource to practice BITSAT English...

Try revising grammar and stuff...don't start English from scratch...no point doing that

And for other topics just check the topics in Blog - How to crack Physics and Maths :)
  • ARVIND THATIKONDA · 7 months ago
And when I say practice I am talking about the practicing of problems :)

2> in the syllabus of chem, under the section "Theoritical principles of exp chem", wht r the imp topics coz its lookin
too heavy and the topics r scattered so its not easy to find them n also whts the limit?
(plz tell some imp ones in it coz some imp topics might be hidden)

i'm planning to take indiatimes' mindscaped package for bitsat.
    should I ???
or should i buy arihant's instead??
as i don't think there is any good package for free.
my exam is on 29 may
  • ARVIND THATIKONDA · 7 months ago
    @Vivek :
a)if it is not in the syllabus it wont come in the exam
    b) If I am not wrong you have done all these experiments in your 11 and 12 class...so every experiment is important...you cannot say that experiment 1 is more important for Bitsat than experiment 2...

@aditya: I have no idea about IndiaTimes BITSAT package...So I cannot compare it with Arrihant...As far as I know Arrihant/MTG BITSAT packages are good

And for free I have given a huge list of free BIITSAT Sample Papers...many have found it useful

Also you must realise that nothing in this world is for free...We have kept ads every where in the blog so that we earn some revenue for future prospects in developing this website

  • ARVIND THATIKONDA · 7 months ago

If you take up Bio and get a good engineering degree say CompSi / EEE then you can do research in so many inter disciplinary fields
    Ex: Bio - Informatics

for BITS I M PREPARING FROM mtg BITS EXPLORER AND ARIHANT BITSAT also for maths doing frm ML khanna and TMH Is it enough to get above 290 in BITSAT plus after doing above 15 mock papers..??
  • ARVIND THATIKONDA · 7 months ago
@siddhant: When is your exam???Practicing from any of the cd is enough....Try to analyse your mistakes and revise those topics...also spend some time on preparing the new topics

If you can rectify your mistakes then a score of 330+ is easy to achieve in BITSAT
  • avinash · 7 months ago
you've given all the new topics in chem which are important for bitsat also that we haven't studied before for the likes of jee - can you give an overall list of all the topics - like you did for physics and math - would be really helpful as the memorising part in chem is a slight headache so ......
ya and btw you are doin' a really good job bro - thanks a lot and keep replyin' - looks like you have a lot of free time :P

  • avinash · 7 months ago
ya look in physics and math na - you gave a list of important topics which you think could be really important for bitsat from the entire syllabus right ? ... in chem you only gave the list of topics such as polymers etc. etc. - what i was asking you to do was to put up the important topics list from the whole of chem - including inorganic, organic and physical ..... i'm havin' sort of a tough time doin' my organic and inorganic - got it planned out for like 10 - 12 days now as i'm writing my bitsat on june 3 - but it would be really helpful nevertheless !!!!!
  • ARVIND THATIKONDA · 7 months ago
@avinash : If I have not told this before then let me clear your doubt

Every topic is important in Chemistry..You cannot leave any topic at any cost
I specified those topics because many people dont study them or have not studied them before

Jun3 - you have a lot of time...just spend extra time on Chemistry to complete the syllabus
  • avinash · 7 months ago
yes sir ! :P ........ dude cud you give me some advice on how to prepare for organic ? i think i can manage physical because i've studied physical before and also it is sorta conceptual and all .... but organic is like sooooo huge and is like sooo boring ... so for bitsat do we need to study all the mechanisms also or is it good enough if we just memorise the named reactions and stuff ????? - thanks a lot for replying :)
  • ARVIND THATIKONDA · 7 months ago
    @avinash: Dude???

As for advice learn the basic named reactions initially...if you have time go for all reactions else hope that your Chemistry paper is easy :)
  • avinash · 7 months ago
lol you said you were in your final year in bits na - so not too old - callin' you sir would be sorta uhm .... i donno weird maybe :P - ok ok i'll call you however you wish, sir ! .... hmm... k - i already noted down the list of all the named reaction there in the portion - some 45 - 50 and then also G.O.C. and isomerism !!!! k then thanks a lot - will come back for more advice later !!!!

And good thing...all the best for your BITSAT

all of the topics in the Bitsat syllabus are covered in NCERT but what I was confused about was the depth required .... because there is quite a bit of a difference in the volume of matter provided in books like OP Agarwal or Arihant and ncert textbooks (e.g. you could find many more reactions in organic chem in a book like op tondon(op tondon is probably 10 times the size of ncert) than in ncert) I was planning to stick to ncert but will it be sufficient to score really well (if done thoroughly)?
  • rohit · 7 months ago
and also ... should one know the detailed mechanism for each reaction in organic chem or is just the basic details of the reaction(reaction equation) enough

would greatly appreciate any help and advice

@rohit : I have always said that NCERT books are there for studying the theory part...the things you miss in the theory part are covered while practising for problems....Where NCERT books lay the foundation for the subject i.e. tha bare minimum to study before writing BITSAT your performance also depends on the level of practice..

So in short NCERT is the minimum...Practice problems from the standard books...And based on the time you have judge the level which you want to study

The more you understand a topic the better your performance..so in organic especially try to learn the detailed mechanism...it will help a lot

My exam is on 27th may,
i'll get only 140 in jee & 210 in aieee{100-physics,80-chem,30-maths},all due to lack of time management
i'm cbse, know chem ncert texts, brilliant tutotials material well, but u mentiond books like Tandon for chem,is there a need & is there enough time..
also from subj qs will be toughest.in the last remainin days is it best to study chem only
&pls recomend the best sample qs papers
  • ARVIND THATIKONDA · 7 months ago
@nithin : Studying only chemistry is avery bad strategy....spend 11 hours per day 4 on Maths 3 on Physics and 3 on Chemistry....

And remember that these 15 days are very important for your future..your life depends on how you perform these 2 weeks :)

NCERT + Brilliant is enough for the preparation...see to it that you complete your syllabus and have a good revision

I have written a post o huge list of free BITSAT sample papers....do search for it :)

@Anonymous # 42 : No i have my friend Santosh Lakshman who helps me out in everything I do....he is quite busy now with his other commitments but he does spend enough time to help me out with whatever troubles i have....

@Avneesh : Please read the post myths about BITSAT...there is no such thing as exam sgetting tougher as the ending date approaches

Revision of topics and studying extra topics should be your top priority...from 26 may attempt one paper daily and spend rest of them time analysing your mistakes along with your revision and stuyding of new topics
